I met Mike when I was a baby Agent just out of school and assigned to the Joint Narcotics Smuggling Unit at JFK Airport. I didn't know which way was up and Mike was the greatest pal and mentor I could have had. 50 lbs of heroin was attempted to be smuggled into JFK off a commercial flight by a foreign diplomat. Mike could have taken the case. It was a huge seizure with political implications and one that made the NY Times. Mike could have made more of a name for himself than he already had but he gave the case to me with an offer to help me along in any and all ways I would need. That just says so much about him. Mike wouldn't remember me as he was the same way with all the new Agents that reported to JFK shortly after me. I still recall some hilarious stories of Mike's exploits in the Navy or DEA. Heaven is certainly better off for having him there. I will keep Mike and his family in my prayers and I am truly saddened by his passing. Bill Atwell billatwell76@gmail.com

Maureen Burke and the Burke Family; I met Michael (Mike) Burke in 1973 on assignment to the Buffalo Resident Office. Mike was a warm and generous man with a great sense of humor and a pleasure to meet. Mike was an outstanding Special Agent who earned a reputation for outstanding drug law enforcement throughout the Buffalo and western New York area. It is with great sadness I learned of his passing. I will miss him.

Mike and Maureen Burke began as customers, but became dear family friends. Mike was a delight to know and our kids all saw him as family. He generously stood up as a confirmation sponsor for our son Ryan, snuck out large cookies to our younger children and could not have been kinder or more thoughtful. He dug out a Latin dictionary for our daughter Emma as soon as he heard she was taking it, and amazed us with stories from his DEC days. The things he took the time to do showed how big his heart was, and our time with him is a treasure. May God welcome him to heaven, with peace of heart and eternal joy. The Kruszka family
