Dear Diane, Kevin, Christopher and families:
On behalf of the Schweitzer branch of the family - Nancy, Dian, Kim & Craig - I want to express my sincerest condolences for the death of Ken. My funniest memory of Ken involve his ‘apprenticeship “ at Schweitzer Hardware, when he was a teenager. He learned many useful skills: how to repair a screen, or window glass, how to mix paints, cut a pipe, But my favorite memory was of him rigging a plastic black spider, over a telephone line, from the storage space over the hardware garage, onto the sidewalk on Hamilton Street, scaring many a passing person walking on the sidewalk below! That sense of merriment continued throughout his life. God bless you, cousin!
Though Dian and I will be unable to attend his visitation and services, we will be with your family in our thoughts and prayers.
Nancy Schweitzer Aikens

My big brother Ken, was twelve years old when I was born. Before I knew it, he was out of the house. This photo was taken in June, 1960. Mom wrote on the back, “Ain’t we photogenic - Opening Day at Crystal Beach at Speidels cottage.”
He will always be that busy, brave older brother to me. Teasing, laughing and loving all at the same time. As mom would jokingly say, “that Ken is an instigator of trouble”. I am proud to have had such an incredible big brother. He will be thought of by everyone that knew him with kindness and joy. You are at peace, and that brings me peace. Love you, Kenny

To my dear Aunt Diane, aka, Saint Diane, Cousin Christopher and Cousin Ken and family,
How can I beat my counterpart, Stephen Beebe's, beautiful words? Well, I definitely can't, but I will try. Uncle Ken, was one of my Mother's older brothers, for which she had five. When I picture Uncle Ken, I see his beaming smile, sometimes, actually, many times, it was a smirk, along with a head shaking, because something that I had said or did, he did not agree with, and he was scoffing at it. He may not have agreed with a lot of my crazy lifestyle and choices, but he did always love me and I always knew that, even though he didn't agree with me, at times. He would never shy away from a tough conversation, especially about religion, politics or nutrition, topics that most people avoid d/t the very strong beliefs that people hold, and strong beliefs he did hold, but, at the end of the day, they were jovial conversations. He never held differing beliefs against the other. That is something that I will always cherish about him and will try to carry on, in his honor. He dove right into those conversations, just as he dove into life, piloting planes, sailing his beloved sail boat, rocking a motorcycle or sports car, traveling around to visit family and friends, or playing all the family games with passion ( volleyball, basketball, balloon tossing and more). He and Aunt Diane always maintained strong connections with loved ones near and far. He was generous with his time, helping us move on at least one occasion, and if you know Steve and I, you know that that was a really big ask, but he, Diane and Christopher just showed up ready to help in any way they could and we are eternally grateful for that! Uncle Ken was truly a devoted son of God, husband, father, grand father, great grandfather, Uncle, brother, cousin and friend. He will be missed dearly! Love you and RIP Uncle Ken

If I had to use words to describe, uncle Ken, I would start with honesty and integrity. He had a strong, Christian belief and vast biblical knowledge. He was a true friend, and always a great teammate in whatever sport we were playing, usually basketball or volleyball. He could be blunt to make a point in conversation, and he was also happy to give, and receive a hug. He always wanted to participate, socially, no matter what the gathering was about. He was the pilot of his plane, the captain of his boat, motorcycle or sports car. He had intense love for his family and pride in their heritage. He liked a cold beer on a hot day, and a gin and tonic after mowing the lawn.
We had great conversations about almost everything, but especially politics and religion. He was always willing to listen, but had supporting evidence most of the time as to why he thought he was right.
I will truly miss this man’s presence on this earth, and I know that he has gone to a better place and his heaven is everything that he expected it to be.
I feel privileged to have gotten to know him very well over the past 33 years and I will miss him greatly.

Ken always had fun ideas such as this picture of us doing a strong man pose similar to what you might have seen when he was a kid - we weren’t muscle men for sure but we always had fun with Ken.

My Uncle Ken took me sailing on Lake Erie, and he also safely flew my mother, brother and me over our house in a small aircraft. He also personally taught me much of what I understand about the local history and politics of Buffalo, NY. Uncle Ken held so many big family parties that I remember from my early childhood. His passion for history and political debate, his love for family and his dry sense of humor will remain forever in my heart and mind. Thank you Uncle Ken! Love, Carlos Daniel Cedeno
