I first broke 100 in golf with a 98 at Batavia Country Club, at a Rick Zurak tournament where I carpooled with the McGowans on a middle-school summer, one of many such adventures. Mrs. McGowan drove us from OP to Batavia, and I remember her pep talk in the car, as I expressed doubts in my abilities, and her telling me that it was going to be a great round and I was going to break 100. I had been close but hadn't quite crossed the threshold yet. She believed I could do it before I did, and I did.
My love for golf has never relented, just as Mrs McGowan's love for those around her never wavered.
I was lucky enough to know her from a young age, and I will always remember her for her optimism, encouragement, humor and most importantly LOVE, which will endure through her family and friends and will spread across the world forever. When I needed to decide on my confirmation mom as a high school junior, Mrs. McGowan was the easy choice. I'm so grateful to have known her, and she will be with me always.
